The Toyota Hybrid X, like the current Prius, is a car meant to stand out of the crowd, to say "Hey, look, I'm a Hybrid!" In fact, we are pretty sure the success of the Prius has a lot to do with its futuresque styling. The Hybrid X has an even more exaggerated sweeping style to it - design elements that will surely find their way into the updated Prius when it comes out in 2009.

Designed as a four door family sedan, the Hybrid X concept is 4.5 meters long, 1.85 meters wide, 1.44 meters high, and a wheelbase of 2.8 meters. According to Toyota, the "futuristic exterior shape of the Hybrid X offers unconventional fusion of thought through a clear and visionary insight to the interior." The interior of the Hybrid X exudes simplicity, with two prominent touch-screen displays, which, according to Toyota, allow the user to control lighting, music, and - interestingly enough - even smell via a perfume defuser.
There isn't word yet on any drive-train details, but we assume the vehicle - like the next generation Prius - will have substantially improved gas mileage as hybrid technologies evolve. It is unlikely, however, that you will ever see this exact car in Toyota showrooms, though several exterior styling elements are almost certain to show up in the '09 Prius.
